TJEN Resource Library
The Traditional Jazz Educators Network operates the TJEN Resource
Library (item #4 in our Action Plan). The library
consists of donated traditional jazz materials that are made available
at no charge for the use of jazz educators and their students. Some of
these materials are offered in sample form for your evaluation, others
are offered for keeps--free! Trad jazz LPs, CDs, and arrangements
can be yours for the asking! Please, these are for jazz educators only,
not for collectors; they were donated for the purpose of being shared
with young people. The listing below shows just a portion of what's available, and the conditions
for use.
How about you--got anything to share with your fellow educators?
An arrangement or two, or some unneeded LPs/CDs? Send them to TJEN at the address on our home page, and put them to
work "turning on" young folks to this music!
The following conditions apply for requesting items from the TJEN Resource
Library:
RECORDINGS: The listed LPs/CDs/cassettes
are FREE for the asking and need not be returned (except where noted).
PLEASE, NO COLLECTORS. There are many rare collector's items on the
list, but these recordings were donated to TJEN for study/teaching purposes
only! Condition of the LPs varies, but all are playable. A tune listing
is available for any specific recording by request. All are offered
subject to prior claim. Recordings are limited to 5 per educator.
VIDEOS: Over 150 VHS videotapes are available for LOAN ONLY. These commercially produced videos document live performances
by a wide variety of traditional jazz bands between 1987 and 1994. These
videos were donated by Heritage Music on Video, and are only to be borrowed
for educational purposes; they are not to be copied or broadcast.
SHEET MUSIC: The listed vintage music
sheets (piano music) and banjo method books are FREE for the asking
and need not be returned. PLEASE, NO COLLECTORS. This music was donated
to TJEN for study/teaching purposes. All are offered subject to prior
claim. Sheet music is limited to 5 per educator.
PUBLISHED ARRANGEMENTS, BOOKS ETC.:
Commercially published materials are sent to educators in an incomplete
"for evaluation" version (except where noted otherwise). This allows you to assess whether you wish to purchase the item for use in your
program. Purchases are made from the supplier, not from TJEN. (For ordering
information, see Teaching Resources.) The listed jazz history books are available from TJEN on loan.
UNPUBLISHED ARRANGEMENTS: These are
provided (in complete form) to youth groups for THEIR USE ONLY. These
are NOT to be performed by adult groups. The borrower agrees to acknowledge
the arranger each time the youth band performs the arrangement.
