Welcome! The Traditional Jazz Educators Network (TJEN) is an organization dedicated to perpetuating the traditional jazz idiom through education. TJEN promotes and facilitates the teaching of traditional jazz history and performance techniques to young people. By "traditional jazz" we mean New Orleans jazz and its various outgrowths, encompassing styles sometimes called dixieland, classic jazz, hot jazz, Chicago style, San Francisco style, etc. The core of our membership consists of directors of youth traditional jazz bands, but the membership also includes clinicians, jazz camp directors, jazz society education outreach chairpersons, and others who are working to perpetuate the traditional jazz idiom through the participation of young people. If you or your society is interested in forming a traditional jazz youth group, TJEN is here to help you get started! At this site you will find a listing of who we are; a directory of traditional jazz youth groups; a link for requesting your own free copy of our Traditional Jazz Curriculum Kit; a list of recordings, arrangements, etc. also available for free from us (Resource Library); a compendium of additional resources on the market for teaching traditional jazz; and links to other useful sites.
